Lacunar Stroke may be defined as small subcortical infarcts in the territory of the deep penetrating arteries and may present with specific lacunar syndromes or may be asymptomatic. Lacunar strokes is a subtype of ischemic stroke, have earned their name because the area rendered ischemic takes the form of a small lacune or cavity. Individuals with lacunar strokes may develop difficulty with their memory and ability to concentrate or process information, a condition known as vascular dementia. Lacunes occur most frequently in the basal ganglia and internal capsule, thalamus, corona radiata, and pons.
